Ironman World Champions!

So the 2010 Ironman World Championship race was this weekend in Kona, Hawaii and the winners finished in amazing times! If you are unaware, the Ironman Triathalon consists of a 2.4 mile swim, THEN a 112 mile bike race, THEN they run a marathon (26.2 miles). All at once, no break in between. A little crazy, a LOT of amazing athletic endurance and talent!

This year’s winner were both Australians. Chris McCormack placed first for the men’s division, finishing in 8 hours, 10 minutes, and 37 seconds.

The women’s winner was Mirinda Carfrae, finishing in 8 hours, 58 minutes, and 36 seconds.

Don’t think you could do it? Think again. Lew Hollander, 80 years old, finished his 21st Ironman this weekend. Yeah, he’s 80. He had this to say, “I can’t outrun my past age competitors, just outlive them!” Ha. He’s old, he’s funny, he’s badass.

Now I am all about exercise and competition, (anybody that’s ever played a game with me will vouch for that) and I used to compete when I was younger but I don’t think I want to do the same thing for 9 hours. I don’t want to read for 9 hours, dance for 9 hours, or even walk for 9 hours. I think because I am a dancer, I need to move in more planes of motion, especially more that just the sagittal plane. I think I might do well in a triathalon, but I don’t think you could pay me to enter a race like this. That being said:
MAJOR KUDOS to all the Ironman Triathletes out there. Chris and Mirinda, you rock my world! Eat a steak and take a nap.

Tango Friday

The good news is this is the last weekend I have to go out of town to teach a TRX course (out of town for 7 weekends in a row now!). The other good news is that this course in only an hour away, AND I’m staying with my college girlfriend, Kara AND I get to meet her little girl, Rylee, AND I’ll be home Saturday night to go out with my hubs! It’s gonna be a great weekend.
And here are some photos of the Tang from this week. Because he’s adorable. As always. Happy Friday!

Head on the seat instead of the window. It was cold.

Playing with Dasher, his BFF/GF.
Cuddled up with me to read. I swear this won’t be our couch forever.
He loves reading blogs too.

TRX Madness

So you can do ANY exercise with the TRX, but here are 5 that you might never think to do on it, but look CRAZY and really, really FUN. Think I’m gonna go for it today on my workout…

This is my buddy, Doug Balzarini (or Doug Balls, as I like to call him; ) ) He’s an amazing trainer that I know from San Diego. He’s also a fellow TRX Course Instructor. Check out his tweeting

Book Buzz – Committed

So I finished Committed, by Elizabeth Gilbert on the plane this past weekend and LOVED it. Everybody that’s been married, getting married, or thinking that maybe, one day, they’ll be married should read this book.

Side note – If you’re about to get married, like in the next couple days or so, don’t start reading it unless you’re sure you can finish it before the Big Day. Some parts can make you freak for a second, but you’ve gotta finish the whole thing to get it.

Anywho, this book is kind of like the sequel to Eat ,Pray, Love. If you haven’t read that, you can still pick this up, no problem. But you kind of appreciate her story more if you know what she went through prior to getting to this place in her life.

As somebody who never saw myself actually getting married, I identified A LOT with the author of this book. There are a ton of things you have come to peace with in order to get married, or at least I did… Especially when you’re super independent. And partially just very stubborn and used to running your life without interruption. Oh, I always love fairy-tale romances and could watch chick-flicks every day of my life, but the real thought of getting married just never seemed to be one of those things I actually thought would happen. But I’m VERY happy with my hubs and VERY glad I’m married now.

So now that it’s getting colder out, grab a blanket and get cozy with this guy (the book, I mean). This is a quick read and sure to make you laugh. And maybe cry a little bit at the end… if you’re a sap like me.

Can you say Burrrrr?

“Hello Fall, how ya been? It’s been about 4 years since I’ve been around the colder temps that you bring about. Kinda forgot about ’em a bit…”

So we started back up another round of Bootcamp this week. Outdoor Bootcamp. In the out-of-doors. Totally fine during the summer months, you don’t really think about it… Then all of the sudden, you take a week’s break, you come back, and it’s 42 DEGREES outside. DUMB.

Not really. I know it’s only going to get colder, and I know it’s not even that bad outside. I’ve just been living in San Diego for 4 years and it doesn’t really get below 60 degress. Ever. So I’ve gotta get back in the groove of things. No biggie, I just have to suck it up.
Until then, I’m thinking about buying this Lululemon Remix Hoodie. Because it’s thicker than my Lulu Define Jacket (although I do love the mittens, the Define jacket makes!). And will keep me warm. At least through the warm-up, and the Kettlebell Swings, and the TRX Balance Lunges. Thanks Lu!

Five Reasons Today Rocks

~I’m off to Texas this weekend to teach another awesome 8-hour TRX Training Course, so I’ll catch up with you guys on Monday! Happy Friday!
Here are 5 reasons today rocks:
1. One of my clients had a 5 week assessment today. She’s lost 4 pounds and 6 and a half inches so far because she works hard! She does what I tell her, she gets results. YES.

2. The St. James Court Art Fair is this weekend and I’m going with my mom later! This is an art event that brings all kinds of artists from all over the country to Louisville every first weekend in October, every year. I’ve missed it for the past 4 years and CAN’T WAIT to go again! And I get to hang out with my mom. Double Score.

3. Committed, the book I’m reading is REALLY good. I’m flying this weekend. I need a GOOD book with me when I fly, because flying freaks me the heck out. And I do a lot of flying. If the book sucks, I start thinking about my plane falling out of the sky. GOOD BOOKS ROCK.

4. The Inner Strength Bootcamp Happy Hour part-ay is tonight!!! All of our past, present, and maybe future bootcampers get the chance to mingle and have fun whilst smelling and dressing nice. I may not be recognizable tonight.

5. I get to hang out with my husband tonight! We haven’t seen a lot of each other lately because I work late every night with classes/clients and have been out of town the past 6 weekends in a row. So tonight, we’re getting fancy for the party and I get to show him off (because he’s awesome) to all my bootcamp pals. – photo by 927 Photography. duh.
