Book Buzz – Gone Girl

I needed a good “quick read” so I posted on Facebook asking for suggestions… this is always good because a FB post about books will usually yield at least 10-15 responses. I got 23. Six of which recommended Gone Girl, so it won. And since I bought my Kindle last year, I can just go online, purchase it, and it’s there. On my device! Yay for modern-day technology!

Taken from Gillian’s Website:
” On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Ami’s 5th wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick Dunne’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick Dunne isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but hearing from Amy through flashbacks in her diary reveal the perky perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media – as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents – the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter – but is he really a killer? As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one they love. With his twin sister Margo as his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was left in the silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?”

Ooooooh. Suspenseful, indeed!

My thoughts are mixed on this book:
The writing? Excellent!
The suspense? Definitely present. I read this in just a few days…
The 2 main characters? Wonderful, complex peeps.
For me it was a little depressing though… Maybe just because I’ve gone through a divorce myself and reading about a couple going through marriage issues isn’t super entertaining. Not that I was relating to these characters to the tee; My hubs would have never killed me (nor I him). It’s just a little heavy is all.
But overall, this book satisfied what I needed out of it. It was well written and a definite ‘can’t-put-it-down’ read. Have you guys read it? What did you think?

Local Love (Christmas Style) Light Up Louisville

It was a fun T-Day week with less work!
Saw the new James Bond flick, Skyfall on Wednesday
Grubbed out on Thursday…
Saw Lincoln on Friday (highly recommend it)…
and ended that day with seeing the Christmas Tree presentation
at Light Up Louisville downtown.
Good times were had by all.
And now that I can officially listen to Xmas music
It’s ON!
Me, rommie’s sis – K Beg, and roomie.
Sorry, ScottyD. The photo I took of the 4 of us was bad. : (
It’s fun when you actually get to hang out in the city you live in.

I’ve seen WAY too many scary movies…

If this prank happened to me, I would have had a heart attack…

AFTER I shat myself.
Have to give credit though – Genius.
And if you’re like me, you want something light to watch after something scary. (After Paranormal Activity, I watched cartoons before going to sleep). Here’s some “almost crossing the line to be too inappropriate for tv” humor to make you feel better now. Thanks, Crystal!
Have a great day!

A Motivational Post from a Trainer…

Since you know you’re going to eat a ton of food on Thanksgiving,
it’s good to stay up and active…
A quick quick metabolic workout before you eat
helps to ensure you’ll be burning calories long into the day.
After digesting and visiting with family for a bit,
maybe even doing a short jog will help you feel great!
Since you’re off work, you actually have time for that yoga class you
can never make at 5:30.
What a great, active weekend!
Yeah…
I didn’t do ish (physically) this weekend.
It was nice.
But time to kick it in gear.
Get ready, week.
You’re about to be my bitch.
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend with your loved ones!
Well… those of you that celebrate Thanksgiving anyway…

Travel Ish…

A bunch of random photos from my travels the past two weeks:
Cleveland, OH:
A free bottle of wine waiting in my room for me,
courtesy of Marriott Hotels.
Yay for being a frequent traveler.
Sidenote: Using my hotel time to get a jumpstart on Christmas cards: A good idea.
Writing said cards while on your 3rd glass of wine: Not as good of an idea.
#calleditquits
I’m not Type A at all
but this photo would suggest otherwise.
This is how I unpack my toiletries as soon as I get to my room.
Every time.
Evansville, IN:
My new favorite hotels are ones that have fireplaces burning in your room when you arrive.
High Five, Marriott Residence Inn.
I’ve never had this before. A wonderful addition.

Baltimore, MD:
Some rental cars are more difficult to figure out than others.
Take this Fiat, for example.
With it’s window button on the right, in the center console.
And it taking me a couple minutes to figure out how to roll the window down
for the Rental Lot attendant to give me my paperwork.

I finally opened the door out of frustration.
Then she told me where it might be.
“Oh. Thanks.”
#facepalm
Ah the joys of being a “business traveler” : )

These are my favorite songs (this week).

As always, my playlists are an hour long

and include songs for cool-down and stretching!
GO GET AFTER IT!
We worked out to this playlist in bootcamp yesterday…
See? Even if you aren’t part of it, it’s like you’re there

Awesome Videos

… Because this is all I got right now…
Who doesn’t love cute animal buddies?
A Fabulous documentary about what young dancers go through:
And the BEST “support gay marriage” video I’ve ever seen. Hilarious.
“Because gay guys will marry your girlfriends.”

Co-workers…

There’s a surprising amount of admin work that comes with my job…
It’s a good thing I’ve got such great co-workers that help keep me awake and motivated.
Not.

Hey, Louisville! New TRX Bootcamp!

My new bootcamp session starts next week!
Why should you join my bootcamp? Well…
The program’s awesome. I’m awesome. ‘nough said.

But if you need more than that, here are some other reasons why you should join:

  • YOU choose your level! Intimidated by taking a “bootcamp” if you’re not in peak condition? No worries! There are lots of options and I’ll show you how to scale each exercise to make it an appropriate challenge for yourself. Nobody puts Baby in a corner and nobody gets left behind in bootcamp!
  • Train like the pros! Having said the above statement, YOU choose your level. If you are in top shape and want to keep improving, I’ve got the higher levels for you. I’ve been working with TRX for over 6 years and know alot about the high training levels and challenges it can provide. And trust me, I LOVE having people who are ready to try the fun/intense progressions of each exercise!
  • There’s no thinking! I’ll tell you what to do, how to do it, and make corrections in your form if necessary. So if you’re worried about how to workout on your own and if you’re doing the right things correctly, let me help you out!
  • Workout with other fun peeps! The regulars in my camp are awesome! If you’re looking to workout but don’t want to do it alone, come hang with us. We work hard but laugh often. You’re sure to have a good time. The hour goes by a lot faster when you’re having a great time.
  • Clean your ish off before you go to work! This venue has showers so you’ll be able to get on the road and on to work right after we’re finished. No worrying about heading all the way back home to get ready.
  • You’ve got options! Choose from once, twice, or three times per week. Some people want to get after it 3 days a week, but some don’t have that much time (or don’t want to wake up that early that much). So you choose your package and don’t worry about wasting money for sessions not used.
  • We use GREAT equipment!  We’ve got TRX Suspension Trainers, Rip Trainers, and some other fun stuff that will keep you working hard and getting results. So put aside the dumbbells. Get off the boring machines (that don’t do anything for you). And STAND UP TO TRAIN! It’s fully functional and every exercise we do works your core. Ask some of the regulars; their bodies have never looked better and their performance test outcomes have never been higher.
  • Train with somebody that knows their ish!  Not to brag (I’m totally bragging), but I’ve got some good experience. I’m a classically trained ballet dancer with over 20 years of training in balance, alignment, strength, and coordination. I’ve a got a degree in Exercise and Sports Science. I’m certified in Personal Training as well as Group Fitness. I’ve worked in commercial, collegiate, corporate, and private fitness venues in 3 different cities for 10 years. And I’m TRX Master Instructor who travels and presents this stuff all throughout the country. #brushinmyshouldersoff
So if you think you might be interested, need location details, and want to join, shoot me an email at fitwithflash@gmail.com! Have questions/concerns about the program or your current fitness level? Feel free to discuss. We’ll find a solution for you. Trust me, this program works for anybody, with any goal, at any level. Let’s have some fun, get after it, and get those results you’ve been looking for!

Things That Are My Jam Today

All that lead up with big news and then I leave you hangin’ for a week.
My bad. Anyway…
Things That Are My Jam Today:
1. Unbroken
Recommended by Bridget,  this was the best book I’ve read since The Help. It’s written by Laura Hillenbrand, who also wrote Seabiscuit and it’s AH-mazing. A true story about a man who went from an Olympic ahtlete to a drafted military bombardier whose plane crashes in enemy territory during WWII. This book is one of those that, even if you have a spare two minutes before you walk out the door, you pull out of your bag to squeeze a few more pages in. This is a great read for the fellas too (you know: war, crashes, bombs, etc)! Thanks for the rec, Bridge!
2. My nephew, Jaxson in his “Ninja Lloyd” Halloween costume.
The moment I said, “let me get your picture” he struck this pose without missing a beat.
That’s being in character.
3. My new kicks
It’s really hard for me to find a pair of running shoes that I like. I want minimalist shoes, but I also need a little padding for days when I’m on my feet for hours. These K Swiss ones feel good. And they get bonus points for matching my TRX ish. They lose a few of those points though because of the two foot long shoe strings… I meeeeeeean
4. Getting a girl’s day with Jenn and Christy last week!
We just hung out, shot the ish, and made cinnamon rolls. Yay for a few hours with the girls.
5. Tango
He’s SO cute. This was him keeping watch and waiting for Trick-or-Treaters last week.
6. My special man-friend
Yep. I’m dating somebody. He doesn’t live near me. BUT I’m heading his way to visit for a few days. Right now.
Photos and deets to come later (gotta keep you guys interested somehow).
Have a great week, everybody!
