I think a majority of the New Year’s Resolutions and overall year-long goals tend to revolve around wanting better health and finances. Two of the biggest ways to sabotage progress on both of these goals: Meeting friends for drinks and socializing with restaurant dinners… on a weekly basis. [Read more…]
I haven’t talked much about it here, (as opposed to my Facebook and Instagram accounts) but I’m on a serious handstand mission. I’ve never in my life been able to hold a handstand, but I’ve also never put any focus and work into it. I started about a month ago trying to understand what needs to happen in my body to be able to hold that ish for more than half a second. I’ve enlisted the help of several of my yogi/gymnast buds to give me some drills and tips and while those have certainly helped a ton, I’m also realizing that a big part of my problem is not having the shoulder strength and mobility necessary to stay up there. I’ve needed some “handstand cross-training” so I’ve been using my TRX Suspension Trainer to work on it. Check out the video of the exercises, then check out the rationale, volume suggestions, and notes for your own workout below: [Read more…]
I’ve always heard great things about the Asia Fitness Conference and getting to attend and speak at this year’s conference in Bangkok was amazing! I decided to write this post in letters to those who helped make this event as great as it was!
Dear Suzanne Hosley – You put on a wicked conference! Thank you so much for inviting me to teach TRX Dance Body and for asking for lots of dance sessions. It was so incredibly fun to rock it out with the attendees and getting to mix my dance world with my fitness world. Had the time of my life and it started with you!
Dear Hip Hop Dance Party Participants, [Read more…]
While my degree in Exercise Science certainly helped me establish myself as a fitness pro, it lacked in business info that would help me as a self-employed fitness pro. In college, classes like marketing, management and public speaking were on my agenda to take, but I’ll be honest, I took these intro classes as night classes so I’d only have to go once a week (15 times per semester). And since you could technically miss 2 classes, I only really had to attend 13 of them – college logic that’s been biting me in the ass ever since. Over the years of seeking out business content on my own, my colleagues have suggested many helpful resources to check out. While these don’t in any way take the place of an actual business degree or course, here are some of the books, podcasts, and TED talks that have helped me along the way: [Read more…]
This month marks one decade for me in the fitness industry! Since 2005 I’ve worn many hats as a fitness pro: I’ve been a Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Fitness Manager, Bootcamp Owner, Master Instructor, fitness Blogger, and conference Presenter. I’m fully aware that I still have a long way to go, but over the past 10 years I’ve learned a lot. Here are the lessons that stick out the most: [Read more…]
This month marks my 10 year anniversary in the fitness industry! Whether you teach yoga, pilates, cycling, strength, cardio, bootcamps, aerial, dance, hiit, or whatever else, your job as a professional instructor is a tad different than others…
You Know You’re A Fitness Instructor When:
1. Between teaching classes and your own workouts, showering should happen quite frequently for you, but doesn’t always…
2. When you separate your laundry piles into “dark fitness clothes,” “bright fitness clothes,” and “towels.” You hardly ever use your dryer. [Read more…]
I thought I’d share some of my favorite TRX moves for the core. [Read more…]
I’m partnering up with Spartan Race again to give one free race code away!
There are no beauty products in my purse, other than Chapstick, so this is a different kind of “Bag” post. I’m asked frequently what I do in my own workouts and I tell people I mainly use each of the products shown here. It was imperative to make room for this bag in my car when I was packing up for my road trip!
It’s a duffle bag…
that doubles as a backpack! Wa-pow!
