A Day with Jax

I was uploading some photos from my phone tonight and found a bunch of stuff from the summer that I haven’t gotten around to posting about. This was a day I had off and I got to hang with my nephew, Jaxson. I wish we could have done more of this over the summer, but I was traveling like crazy and now school’s already back in session. Anywho…

Since he’d already seen the movies I wanted to see (Monster’s U and Despicable Me 2) twice
we opted for the Flight of The Butterflies at the Science Center’s IMAX theatre.
It was really good, AND we got to play at the museum. #doublewhammy

Afterwards we went to this fro-yo place, on the way to the park. (Its competitor across the street always has tons of business so I chose this one to lend a hand to the smaller store… They had 4 flavors and all were weird mixes of flavors… our toppings were the only yummy part of this. They both looked pretty at least.)

(There’s a reason the other store has more business…)

Getting drenched in the fountain is the best part about cruising through the park
on a day that’s a million degrees out! We both got soaked and it felt
AMAZING.

A little chill music for the ride home
aaaaaand mission accomplished:

A fun day indeed. : )

It was a good Christmas…

Before

Tango LOVED his present! So much so that he treasured it and just carried it around for most of the day. In the car, at my dad’s, etc. He finally dug into it last night, once we were home. So cute.

After

I caught this moment on the way home from my dad’s house with my brother, sis-in-law, and nephew. They were both passed out… And I was super lucky; they both woke up a few seconds later. Thanks to Amanda for tapping me on the shoulder so I could see it!

Things That Are My Jam Today

All that lead up with big news and then I leave you hangin’ for a week.
My bad. Anyway…
Things That Are My Jam Today:
1. Unbroken
Recommended by Bridget,  this was the best book I’ve read since The Help. It’s written by Laura Hillenbrand, who also wrote Seabiscuit and it’s AH-mazing. A true story about a man who went from an Olympic ahtlete to a drafted military bombardier whose plane crashes in enemy territory during WWII. This book is one of those that, even if you have a spare two minutes before you walk out the door, you pull out of your bag to squeeze a few more pages in. This is a great read for the fellas too (you know: war, crashes, bombs, etc)! Thanks for the rec, Bridge!
2. My nephew, Jaxson in his “Ninja Lloyd” Halloween costume.
The moment I said, “let me get your picture” he struck this pose without missing a beat.
That’s being in character.
3. My new kicks
It’s really hard for me to find a pair of running shoes that I like. I want minimalist shoes, but I also need a little padding for days when I’m on my feet for hours. These K Swiss ones feel good. And they get bonus points for matching my TRX ish. They lose a few of those points though because of the two foot long shoe strings… I meeeeeeean
4. Getting a girl’s day with Jenn and Christy last week!
We just hung out, shot the ish, and made cinnamon rolls. Yay for a few hours with the girls.
5. Tango
He’s SO cute. This was him keeping watch and waiting for Trick-or-Treaters last week.
6. My special man-friend
Yep. I’m dating somebody. He doesn’t live near me. BUT I’m heading his way to visit for a few days. Right now.
Photos and deets to come later (gotta keep you guys interested somehow).
Have a great week, everybody!

A Quote, a Poem, and a Birthday.

“Know you what it is to be a child? It is to be something very different from the man of today. It is to have a spirit yet streaming from the waters of baptism; it is to believe in love, to believe in loveliness, to believe in belief; it is to be so little that the elves can reach to whisper in your ear; it is to turn pumpkins into coaches, and mice into horses, lowness into loftiness, and nothing into everything, for each child has its fairy godmother in its own soul; it is to live in a nutshell and to count yourself the king of infinite space; it is

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of you hand,
And eternity in an hour.”
~  Francis Thompson,  (1913) quoting the poem
“Auguries of Innocence” by William Blake
Happy 6th Birthday
to my nephew, Jaxson
Who took the BIGGEST breath to blow out his candle,
and then spit on it instead.
Ah, kids…
; )
We could learn a thing or two from them.
Happy Friday!

My Weekend Home

I was supposed to be in Cleveland this weekend, but my trip got cancelled at the last minute so I got to stay home and spend some time chillin’ and hanging with a lot of peeps I haven’t seen in a while. It was great!

I got up Saturday morning,
put on running clothes for a run and workout,
and then ended up making a pie instead.
#ishhappens
as I said… ish happens.

I got to hang on the river with my brother and his family…

did a ton of playing
and laying around with the Tang

and had my nephew, Jaxson school me in some puzzle-making.

Can’t complain.

Being a good (and bad) Aunt…

I had a huge free chunk of time last Wednesday so I picked up my nephew, Jaxson
and we had a fun day.
+ 1 point for hanging with my nephew during my time off
Went downtown to the Science Center to watch
+ 1 point for taking him to an educational film
– 1 point for buying him candy instead of taking a healthy snack
(btw, we only ate about a third of our snacks before i put them away)

Went to Waterfront Park to play at the SUPER AWESOME playground.
+ 1 point for playing outside and expending energy/developing movement skills
– 1 point for taking him to get ice cream(more sugar) right before I gave him back to my sis-in-law
Sorry, Amanda! ; )
So at the end of the day, we had a good time, and I ended up with 1 Cool Aunt Point.
I’ll take it.

Cutest Skating Party EVER

Did you guys have skating parties when you were in elementary school?! We did and we went to almost EVERY one. Well my nephew’s school had his skating party last night and skating parties haven’t changed in the last 20 years! At least not around these parts…

We did the Hokey Pokey,
they called out door prize winners with your ticket stub numbers,
and they had RACES!
Real. Good. Time
