Live Tweeting A Canadian Neighborhood Hockey Game…

I’m in Canada for the week visiting my man-friend before our new year travel schedules start getting crazy. It’s been a very Canadian trip so far… but one of the things that was truly local was the New Year’s Day neighborhood hockey game. A few of my man-friend’s buddies organized a game and people just kept showing up with their hockey sticks and skates (like it’s a normal thing) and joined in the game. Even though it killed me to just sit and watch, and not participate – I didn’t have skates and hadn’t ice skated in about 15 years – I opted to take photos (instead of breaking my face open on the ice).  Naturally, a live-tweet began:

Apparently, this is how you choose teams:
everybody throws their stick into a pile, somebody goes in
and chucks the sticks left and right forming two piles.
You go where your stick goes.
The puck was flying around like crazy and I was sitting about 10 feet away
with no protection. I kinda wanted to borrow one kid’s face mask…

I brought my new mittens. They were well received.
These people have been skating since they came out of the womb.
It was incredible. I was grateful that I decided to stay out of the way.
The good news is, we went yesterday morning so I could learn to skate
and now I can… not much different than roller skating,
just a heck of a lot slippery-er and hurts more when you fall.
I’m ready for the next game!
