Book Buzz – The Husband’s Secret

I read about this book in a magazine while I was at the salon last month, then saw it as a best-seller on Amazon last week. I then saw a few peeps had read it on Goodreads.com and finally thought, “OK. It’s gotta be something good.” I’ve been in a reading funk lately and can’t find anything really page-turning. (I re-read the Twilight books just because I knew I’d enjoy them… but that’s another story.) I loved this book! It was a good, fast read, that was part mystery/part drama, with some funny sarcastic lines in the mix and some twists & turns along the way. A smorgasbord, if you will…

From Goodreads:

My Darling Cecilia
If you’re reading this, then I’ve died . . .

Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret – something so terrible it would destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others too. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive . . .

Aaaaaaaaand
it’s only $6 on Kindle —> SCORE.
Have you read it? Whatdidja think?
Any other great books out there I need to know about?

Easiest Salmon Recipe Ever

The biggest excuse for not eating healthy is, “It takes too much time.” So people grab fast food or pre-packaged, processed junk. I don’t like spending a ton of time on food either, but I’ll FEEL like crap if I EAT crap… so I cook. I really don’t enjoy cooking. I wish I did, but I just don’t… so I tend to gravitate toward the recipes with the least amount of work, like this one! I found it a few months ago online (don’t remember where though!) and it’s become a regular in the rotation. It’s take less than five minutes to prep, 30 minutes to bake and then voilà! You’re eating and enjoying dinner!

{Thaw salmon}
(An important step. I always forget to do this so I end up eating dinner about 30 minutes later than I’d planned)

{Preheat oven to 375 degrees}
{Lightly pour extra virgin olive oil to cover}
{Sprinkle with salt, pepper, basil, and parsley}
{Bake for 30 minutes}
I usually steam some veggies while the salmon’s baking…

Tango & Farmington.

When walking Tango, I kind of like to run things in two phases: The first, letting him do his bidness (duh) and working on heeling or other commands. The second, letting him run all out for a good 20 or 30 minutes. The dog’s got some major energy. He’s not the best around other dogs, so we don’t go to dog parks (he was a street dog when he was picked up, then taken to a kill shelter, then adopted… so he’s got some anxiety issues…) but our favorite place is Farmington. Farmington was this huge plantation back in the day (Lincoln even visited a few times) and is now mostly a historical site and sometimes wedding venue. It’s not too far from where I live so it makes a great walking destination. It’s now frequented by many folks and their dogs throughout the day as it’s a great place to walk/run away from any major traffic. Tango and I go there a few times per week. It’s especially beautiful at dawn and twilight because it’s so pretty, quiet, and peaceful.

Sears National Kids Cancer Ride

The SNKCR Ride is fundraising bike ride that goes from the western coast of Canada, to the eastern. It’s 7,000 km (over 4300 miles) and 17 days long! All riders have been furiously fundraising for this endeavor this year to raise money for kids living with and beyond cancer. My good friend and fellow TRX Master Instructor, Shelley Wood is participating (again) this year and I just wanted to highlight her for her awesome work in this organization… and because she’s a badass.

All photos jacked from her facebook page. ; )

Dipping wheels in the water at the end (I think) of last year’s ride.

The route.
(or last year’s route… regardless, it’s long)

To donate to this wonderful organization
and raise money for kids living with and beyond cancer, click here
And follow Shelley’s blog here
For EVERYONE on this ride, best wishes and safe riding.
Thank you for everything you’re doing.

Never Forget

It’s not possible to walk near Ground Zero and not think about what happened 12 years ago. I stayed near there on my trip to NYC last month and felt almost eerie as I walked down the street and past the site each day. Though I watched all the coverage on t.v., I can’t imagine what those people must have gone through that day and the weeks after.
I was able to grab this quick
shot of the new Freedom Tower, almost completed.
To all those affected by events that day,
our hearts go out to you.

I Confess…

“I Confess” theme by Carissa

*I confess my week’s to-do list is very long
and the things that I’ve gotten accomplished so far are NOT on it.
Exhibit A: My Monday Morning
1. Cruise facebook… I mean, how else do you start your day at your computer?
2. Notice Pinterest links and get disgusted/intrigued by everything there
3. Join Pinterest.
4. Blog about said new membership and distractions.
5. Read blogs… It’s the start of the week. There are so many new posts up and now I’ve got to catch up on the happenings around the blogosphere.
6. Start blog post on not being productive.

*I confess that I’m a now a member of the first group mentioned here:
“There are two types of mountain bikers:
those that have gone over the handle bars,
and those that will.”
Thankfully I went more to the side than straight over top. Wheel went off the trail and down
a steep hill. Also thankful it didn’t hurt as bad as I thought it was going to (as I was flying through the air).

*I confess I could totally do without football. I just don’t get the nation’s obsession with it. They play for about 4 seconds at a time, then take a 5 minute break right after. No wonder each game takes like 4 hours… WTH?! I do get tailgating though, that’s fun (at least in October, when it’s not freezing yet, but not 1,000 degrees like it is when football season starts).

*I confess that I have a weakness for fireplaces. There’s nothing more cozy than a couch in front of a fire, socks, a blanket, and a cup of tea. (My work atmosphere so far this week…)
And that after searching for fireplace photos, now want this set-up:
*I confess that even though I’ve never been a cold-weather type person
(hence my 4 years in San Diego),
the mountains have been growing on me lately…
the man-friend might have something to do with that.

What confessions do you have today?

Pinterest. Damnit.

So I saw some stuff on my friend’s facebook link that I was interested in. It happened to be something from one of her Pinterest Boards… then I wanted to remember it and maybe try it one day, so I bookmarked it. Then I saw like 25 other things that looked cool, then I noticed a couple of our mutual friends had boards too that looked cool, and the next thing I know I’m f*cking signing up for Pinterest. Damnit!!

My friend Missy informed me of Pinterest back in 2010, when it was just getting rolling, but I protested immediately: I’ve already got Facebook. And a Fitness Facebook Page. And Twitter. And a blog. And a website **. And G+. And LinkedIn (which is getting creepier by the day, so I’ll probably drop it soon). Do I REALLY need another site?! Another account? Another password to remember? Not to mention the fact that I’m not crafty! Not even a little bit. But every now and then I get the itch to try a new recipe or start a DIY project. So I joined. Damnit.

And now I have a couple boards. So if you guys are on Pinterest and you have anything to contribute to my boards, let me know. Here are my starter boards:

Now I’m just trying to find a way NOT to let this interfere with my productivity.
Riiiiiight.

Who else is on Pinterest?
Dumb question. I’m sure you’re ALL there and have been for two years already.
SMH.

**note all the shameless self-promotion

The Happy Playlist

This isn’t me or anything, I just like this photo. via

So following up yesterday’s downer post with a happier one seemed like the best way to go… Since music is such a big part of my life and my personality, and since playlists are kinda my jam, I thought I’d share with you guys my Happy Playlist. It’s comprised of songs that I absolutely LOVE. I could hear them 1,000 times and I’d still love them. As soon as I hear them come on, I either start dancing, start smiling, or both. I’ve added to it here and there whenever a new song stirs up those feelings in me. It’s impossible to be bummed out when I listen to this playlist…

(This is just a small portion of the playlist, but you get the idea)

And I’m especially happy today
because I’m leaving in a few hours to go
 spend 10 days with my man-friend!!
A definite score. ; )

Tell me… what songs would be on your Happy Playlist?
