Ironman World Champions!

So the 2010 Ironman World Championship race was this weekend in Kona, Hawaii and the winners finished in amazing times! If you are unaware, the Ironman Triathalon consists of a 2.4 mile swim, THEN a 112 mile bike race, THEN they run a marathon (26.2 miles). All at once, no break in between. A little crazy, a LOT of amazing athletic endurance and talent!

This year’s winner were both Australians. Chris McCormack placed first for the men’s division, finishing in 8 hours, 10 minutes, and 37 seconds.

The women’s winner was Mirinda Carfrae, finishing in 8 hours, 58 minutes, and 36 seconds.

Don’t think you could do it? Think again. Lew Hollander, 80 years old, finished his 21st Ironman this weekend. Yeah, he’s 80. He had this to say, “I can’t outrun my past age competitors, just outlive them!” Ha. He’s old, he’s funny, he’s badass.

Now I am all about exercise and competition, (anybody that’s ever played a game with me will vouch for that) and I used to compete when I was younger but I don’t think I want to do the same thing for 9 hours. I don’t want to read for 9 hours, dance for 9 hours, or even walk for 9 hours. I think because I am a dancer, I need to move in more planes of motion, especially more that just the sagittal plane. I think I might do well in a triathalon, but I don’t think you could pay me to enter a race like this. That being said:
MAJOR KUDOS to all the Ironman Triathletes out there. Chris and Mirinda, you rock my world! Eat a steak and take a nap.
