I already know you want my shirt. It’s available here.
I’ve got somewhere around 6-8 weeks here in my home state of Kentucky and I’m STOKED. There are so many things that I love about being here in the summertime and even though I’m arriving more towards the end of summer, the weather will still be nice enough to play, workout, and enjoy fabulous meals outside for weeks. Here’s all I plan to do over the next several weeks…
UPDATE: The things I’ve gotten to so far have been crossed off!
Playing Outside
Most people avoid outdoor activities when it’s hot and humid here, but just think about how much winter in Kentucky sucks and then embrace the heat! I mean, you’re already sweating when you’re playing or working out… You might as well adventure and burn those calories while taking in gorgeous views of all the amazing scenery this state has to offer. Also, damn near all of this ish is free!
Climb and camp in the Red River Gorge
Spend a weekend at the Lake
Most people call it mountain biking, I call it “riding bikes” at Waverly Park
Run the loop and trails with Tango at Cherokee Park
Canoe/kayak in the Parklands or near Frankfort.
Creek wading.
Louisville – centric
The state as a whole has some pretty amazing events to offer, but my hometown of Louisville is an absolute gem. Between the scenery, the music and arts culture, and the forward momentum of physical activity options cropping up, there’s SO much to see and do, and so much of is it free or low cost. I heart this town.
Shakespeare in Central Park – Pumped that the Louisville Ballet is there this week!
New2Lou Meetup
The Labor Day Hike, Bike, & Paddle
St. James Court Art Fair
Seeing the National Park Adventure film in IMAX at the Louisville Science Center
Workouts
While most of my physical activity is going to take place outside, it’s still 91,000 damn degrees in this state and every now and then, working out in the a/c will be a welcome option. I’m really excited to visit my old TRX stomping grounds as well as pay a visit to my industry buddy’s gym and favorite spots around town.
TRX at Fit502
Performance Training at Corey Taylor’s Sports Performance
Bouldering at Climb Nulu
Ballet Class at The Louisville Ballet School
Food and Drink
It goes without saying that bourbon will be consumed on this trip. Duh. But while there are thousands of ways to indulge in other unhealthy food and drink in the South, I’m not willing to gain a bunch of weight while I’m home. (I work in the fitness industry and lululemon apparel is too damn expensive to be purchasing any more than necessary.) That being said, I’m going to pick the food/drink I’m most excited about and spread it out accordingly, while still sticking to my workouts, and drinking water like a mofo. Everything in moderation, kids.
Bourbon from… well… all of the places.
Pizza at Bonnie & Clyde’s
Margaritas at El Mundo
Honey Lavender Lemonade & Oyster shooters at Garage Bar
Ice Cream from Valley Dairy Freeze
Apple Pie from the Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen
Hush Puppies at Mike Linnig’s
Popsicles at Steel City Pops
Whew! That’s a big list. I’m willing to take it on though because these are the things/events/places I miss the most when I’m living elsewhere. Want to join me on anything? Send me a message or leave me a comment and let’s make it happen! The more, the merrier, bitches. ; )
