Season After Thanksgiving

Holiday Tradition:

Years ago, my dad and I had a discussion on how people celebrated the heck out of Halloween, and then as soon as it was over, completely skipped Thanksgiving and started getting in the holiday spirit for the season AFTER Thanksgiving. What the H? Isn’t it supposed to be the time to give thanks? And everybody’s just jumping right into … well, you know. Not that the Season after is bad, but we just wanted to give Thanksgiving its fair share of celebration. So we made a pact that we would not even say the C word until at least after Thanksgiving dinner. So that’s what we do.

We turn the radio station if we start to hear Season After Thanksgiving music. Look to the other side of the street if we happen to see Season After Thanksgiving lights up already, walk the other way in the department stores when they’ve got their Season After Thanksgiving decorations out.
Now, this used to be easier, but as I’m getting older, it’s getting WAY harder to not get excited about it. All I want to do is break out my Season After Thanksgiving music and listen to it while I put up my Season After Thanksgiving tree. Sigh. 2 more weeks until Thanksgiving. I can do this. Time to focus on what I’m thankful for:
I’m thankful that my awesome Hubs agreed to uproot himself from the sun and the surf of Southern California to move to KY so that we could have a new start. I am now close to my family and friends and actually get to spend ALL of the holidays with them. It’s been 4 years since I’ve been able to do that.
How ’bout you?
