Book Buzz: Summer Reading List 2018

Summer Reading List 2018

I never start a new book without finishing another one… until now. For whatever reason I’ve had complete lack of self control when it comes to reading this summer. There are so many great books out there! I’m reading about 6 right now* and this shit is crazy. I want the ability to speed read so I can get through all of them.

Last fall, before we went to Asia, I tried checking out lots of e-books from my library’s app for the long flight, but everything I wanted to read was on hold. I put holds on about 10 different books (the max allowed) and they’re all becoming available NOW. Three have landed in my app this week alone. You only get them for a week, so I’ve had to make the choice to send some back so somebody else can get to them and put myself back on the wait list. Because there are so many people waiting on them, you can’t extend the loans on some of these.

Here’s what I’m currently reading (links to all in the photos) and hopefully you can get through faster than I can… with a little sense of focus:  [Read more…]

Things & Links That Are My Jam Right Now

First… the Things:

Moscow Mules.

I’ve long been a fan of the margarita but just a couple years ago discovered the Moscow Mule. It’s been my main order lately since it’s refreshing but not too sweet (as most marg’s are when you order them at restaurants). [Read more…]

Tango and I have just about 10 more days in Kentucky before we head out. We’re soaking up all the wide open spaces and time with my friends and family while we can. While I’m always bummed to be leaving my people, I’m also excited for an extended trip to Canada to spend a couple months with my man-friend and the boys. Since I haven’t been writing a ton here lately, here’s what’s been going on…

Making: Sweet Tea… pretty much every day. I’m going to enjoy it for my last week here in KY and then I’ll have to put the kibosh on all that sugar.

Wanting: To blog more. I’m working on 5 posts at once and can’t get any of them out. Hopefully that’ll change in the coming weeks. I miss this outlet.

Reading: I’m slowly making my way through Kathryn Hepburn’s autobiography, “Stories of My Life.”  [Read more…]

Kentucky in the Summer. Yes it’s hot and humid, but summer will gone before we know it so I’m taking full advantage.

Louisville Parks. We’ve been to either Cherokee, Seneca, or The Parklands every day since I’ve been back. I’m not mad about it. Neither is Tango…

Stranger Things. Mom and I watched all 8 episodes last week! LOVED it.

Bug Spray. Mosquitos are everywhere here. Don’t give me the all-natural spray… I need some napalm to take these bitches out.

Meeting up w/ friends for walks, runs, bike rides, or workouts. I wrote this post about alternate ways to socialize (other than meeting for meals/drinks) and have been trying to put that into practice more often. (Aside from when people want to meet at my favorite restaurants…)

Steel City Pops. You guys. There’s a popsicle store here.

All the kiddos. Appx. 1,000 friends of mine had kids since I left last year. It’s fun meeting up with my buds to workout or play outside with their little ones and I’m loving all the different parenting styles. It was hilarious seeing my friend Jess yelling “What the hell’s the matter with you?!” as she watched her youngest (of 4) bypass their water bottle and the water fountain to drink out the communal dog bowl on the ground at the playground.

Making a dent my Kentucky Summer Wish List. I’ve marked off the things I’ve done so far from this post.

Labor Day Plans. I’m traveling the rest of my weekends that I’m in Kentucky, but I’m home all holiday weekend long. We’re hitting a Canoe/Kayak/SUP Demo on the lake, heading to the YUM Center to cheer on the UofL Women’s Volleyball team, riding bikes in the Mayor’s Hike, Bike, and Paddle event, and who knows what else. I’m stoked.

Kentucky Summer Wish List

Processed with VSCO with f2 presetI already know you want my shirt. It’s available here.

I’ve got somewhere around 6-8 weeks here in my home state of Kentucky and I’m STOKED. There are so many things that I love about being here in the summertime and even though I’m arriving more towards the end of summer, the weather will still be nice enough to play, workout, and enjoy fabulous meals outside for weeks. Here’s all I plan to do over the next several weeks…

UPDATE: The things I’ve gotten to so far have been crossed off!  [Read more…]

Camping Weekend

After doing so much camping during the first part of my trip, it was nice to set up in my manfriend’s place for a little while. I could get my clothes out of the bags, I could do laundry, I could have regular showers! But now that it’s been a week or two here, I was kind of missing my tent. The weather was perfect this past weekend so we packed up and headed out to camp. And we found the best spot. [Read more…]
