The two weeks leading up to the first Saturday in May are the most fun and exciting times to be in Louisville, KY. It’s Derby time here and the city is buzzing… If you’ve never experienced Derby, you should put it on your bucket list. You won’t regret it.
My mom & I always attend the track on the Thursday before the Derby. This day is huge for locals and has now been dubbed, “Thurby.”
The Friday before the Derby is Oaks day, the big race day for the fillies ( young female horses). We’ll be headed there in a few hours!
Like most huge events, there are things that you just can’t understand unless you’ve experienced them firsthand… You have to attend to realize the awesomeness that is The Kentucky Derby. Kids are out of school today (seriously), everybody and their mom will be at the track, the bourbon industry will be raking in the cash. It’s a good time had by all.
and now… my favorite Derby memes:
There are many more, but I won’t overload you… plus I have to save some for next year’s.
Happy Derby!
The BFs family was out at the track yesterday! I am hoping to make it to the Derby for the first time next year!!
Yeah, Brooke! You HAVE to let me know if you come to town. : )
